Daniel L. Lerner
Daniel Lerner is senior counsel at Lerner Law Professional Corporation, where he continues his passion for criminal law by assisting and representing members of the public who are before the criminal courts. Daniel is a licensed lawyer and former Assistant Crown Attorney. Daniel prides himself on his professionalism, his dedication to the law, and his desire to assist persons navigate the overwhelming experience of the criminal courts.
Daniel recieved his B.Sc. (Hons.) in Astrophysics from Queen’s University, and his LL.B. in Law from the University of British Columbia. Daniel is a licensed lawyer with the Law Society of Upper Canada.
Daniel’s passion for criminal law began in his first year of law school, when he was asked by his law school’s legal advice program to represent clients in the criminal courts in Vancouver, British Columbia. Gaining a reputation for developing unusual and successful defences on behalf of his clients, Daniel also participated in competitive criminal trial moots and was appointed as the Chief Justice of the University’s Student Court.
Daniel has worked exclusively in criminal law since graduating law school. He articled at the Crown Law Office – Criminal, where he assisted on criminal cases before the Ontario Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court of Canada.
Following his call to the bar, Daniel became an Assistant Crown Attorney at the Peel Crown Attorney’s Office. Daniel left the Crown’s office to run his own private practice, only to be recruited by the Downtown Toronto Crown Attorney’s Office. Initially a Crown at Old City Hall, Daniel later moved to the College Park courthouse, where he became one of the lead drinking and driving prosecutors for the area.
In 2013, Daniel left the Crown’s office to return to private practice, and in 2014 he founded Lerner Law Professional Corporation, where Daniel continues his passion in criminal law.
In addition to Daniel’s criminal law practice, Daniel is also dedicated to educating the public about the law. Daniel regularly gives talks and training sessions to members of the public, Crowns, and duty counsel. Daniel also serves as a judge for the Secondary School Mock Trials.
Daniel is a member of the Law Society of Upper Canada, the Canadian Bar Association (including the Criminal Justice Section), and the Criminal Lawyers’ Association. Daniel serves on the Executive of the Ontario Bar Association’s Criminal Justice Section.
